Mission 2019

Where to start - I've been a long time lurker of these boards, and everyone has given me great inspiration and handy tips to help make a difference - so thank you one and all! :j I've found the most beneficial savings I've made are - joining quidco for insurance renewals, completing surveys, ebaying, and batch cooking at weekends, shop for Xmas pressies throughout the year to spread the cost.....

We're currently in our dream home and won't be moving again, and are on a mission to try and pay our mortgage off in 10 years, so by the time we're 50 , which is at the end of 2019...we still want to enjoy ourselves along the way, which is good as my OH is happy to leave me to it, and as long as his debit card gives him money he is happy! I do give us a monthly allowance to live on to try and ensure we don't overspend unnecessarily.

We're with the Halifax, and as a result of their cut over to a new system, they're wiping current overpayments made, so between 9 March and the end of this year, we're able to do a further 10% in overpayments, so I've set ourselves the goal of paying off £8k before the end of the year, to maximise this opportunity!!

So based on our current £500 per month overpayments, which can stretch us at times, I felt the need to do this diary to ensure we stay on track, as somehow need to find a further £3k from somewhere, and we also want to go on holiday soon, and have some DIY projects to do...So my former target of getting our mortgage below £100k by the end of 2014, has changed to getting our mortgage down to £105k before the end of this year - a tough mission!!

So we're off to a good start and have managed to make March's overpayment of £1k, purely because I got an annual bonus for the end of this month. I've been preferring to pay more into our mortgage instead of putting an equal amount into savings due the interest rates are so dire... No matter what - any overpayment to the mortgage helps!!:D

I've already started preparing ransacking my wardrobe to see what I can sell on ebay...altho I hate it as it soo time consuming to complete lol..
Plus I'll continue to read all your diaries for lots of inspiration and to keep me motivated lol.....

Even if we can't reach this target at the end of the day, I don't want to beat myself up about it, but remain positive in that we've given it a bloomin good try and must celebrate any success along the way....:j

    Go for it.

That point about being able to have funds on the debit card is important too though, keep it in your mind that you need to enjoy yourself on the way.

    Good luck
