Thanks for this, really helpful. It's hard to find actual info about the towns/villages online. Going to go for a visit soon to see what I think. I'm thinking just a smaller village, hopefully on or near this trainline, if it is ever built! Just something bit a bit more garden and a bit relaxed. Sounds like I'm retirement age! Nothing wrong with that I guess, although I'm still in my 30's

There's nowt wrong with that setting. Frankly if I could drive I would be somewhere much more remote! I could easily see myself living in a windy cottage in the middle of nowhere sharing lunch with the local sheep, and I'm only 30's :D Nice peaceful life. As it is I now live smack bang in the town centre, but would hark at that cottage in middle of nowhere.

When i lived there, they were harping on about this train line. That was ten years ago... That should give you an idea of the time scale Haha Think Edinburgh tram line...

My FIL lives in Peebles. He was born there, moved to Broxburn in his 20's but moved back as he preferred it down there.

It has supermarkets, some good pub (The County is fab for a nice meal) and a the usual mix of charity shops/expensive shops and little independent businesses.

I love it down there. I have walked through the 'rough' bit and never had any trouble. Everyone is friendly enough (my FIL seems to know everyone!)

If you dont drive though I believe the transport links are dire.

I would move to Peebles in a heartbeat but its too quiet for the OH.
