Multi car and no claims

Are there any insurance companies which will insure two cars and let the named driver claim NCB? The problem is the wife has always been a named driver and has not got any NCB.

Having her as a policy owner means the insurance is far too expensive so I've always got her as a named driver as I have full NCB so insurance is a lot cheaper this way.

This year I Want to buy a second car and I'm exploring ways to make the insurance cheaper.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Your ncd can only be used on one car. See if your current insurers will do any deal if you insure another car with them.

Otherwise the new car will need to build its own ncd so your wife may as well take out the policy. Although she won't get any ncd unless your current insurer obliges, a local broker (not swinton) may be able to get her an introductory discount to reflect her driving experience.

2 cars 2 drivers. They may assume the named driver is really a main driver of one vehicle and charge accordingly or assume your trying to scam them.

There is no intention to scam. I don't understand why it's so hard or impossible to find insurance companies who can give named drivers no claim bonus too.

Although you have to buy policies to get proper ncd, some companies eg. Direct line give named drivers (on a dl policy) ncd to use if they buy a policy from them

Because named drivers are just that someone who may drive the car and should not be the main user. Possible for a named driver to not have driven the car ever.

So giving them no claims is risky.

Equally possible that the policyholder never drives. Ncd gets awarded for no claims on the policy irrespective of who is the main driver.

You are mistaken - a named driver can be the main driver, and often is. But the ncd is awarded to the policyholder.

correct. One of the questions insurers ask is 'who will be the main driver'. This means the main driver doesnt have to be the insurance police holder.

Next question: companies like Direct Line give NCD to named drivers when they eventually take up their own policy. Can this named driver then take away the NCD to another company if they wish to the following year?
