Tiling around gas fireplace

Hello, i want to make-over my fireplace. Its a gas fire with large dark green tiles around it. Im thinking the cheapest option would be to paint the tiles but cant seem to find a suitable paint as non of them seem suitable for both tiles and are non-flammable.
Therefore, I think I need to go down the route of having the tiles replaced. I have no idea what this would cost however so was wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea. I would imagine I will need around 20 -25 tiles and some will need to be cut to slot behind the actual fire. I know its probably hard to give an exact figure without seeing the fireplace in the flesh but if anyone in the trade is able to give a rough idea of total cost for materials & labour I would be very grateful.
thank you

You could have Victorian green tiles on your fireplace. That doesn't mean they are original, it's just the colour name. They are usually very highly glazed, giving a very glossy look.
Have you tried removing the fire surround to see if they are set behind it? I do mean the wooden surround NOT the actual fire. It may not be as hard as you think tiling it, but it depends on what your fire is and how it is fitted.
I would suggest asking an RGI accredited to work on gas fires, to have a look. Won't you have to replace the tiles on the hearth too.
If you can post a picture somewhere to have a look at, we may be ale to guide you better.0 -
Don't paint them whatever you do, it will look worse.
And if they are victorian, they may have lead in the pigments.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
