Freeview channels 1 & 2 are lost at reboot

Options
Mother's freeview box is warning of disruption on 10th April and a rescan to replace the channels might be necessary, so I've shown her how to do it. However, on booting the set up the following day, she found that BBC1 and BBC2 were missing, i.e. channel 3 (ITV1) would appear instead. We've found that a rescan will restore them, but they disappear whenever the box is turned off at the mains. I initially thought that one of the multiplexes was not being received, but it only seems to be these two channels that are absent.

We lost Channel 1 and 2(only) at the recent disruption(27 March) and an automatic tune which erased the channels and returned them worked fine. Why would you turn the box off at the mains anyway?

It consumes 9 watts on standby. That's only around 70 kWh per year when not being used, but this is a money-saving site!

Hi, my mother's freeview box was OK after the 10th April maintenance mentioned in the OP but has now again started having problems. ITV1 is lost every time the PVR is powered off, and she has to do an installation scan every time it's powered back up, which replaces the existing channels with the Full Monty. It's the same whether a 'first time' or 'automatic' scan is chosen.

If it is an old box there may be a restriction on the number of channels it can store so try deleting some unwanted channels.

    It might be the weather!

I've noticed that I 'loose' some of my FreeView channels in bright sunshine for some reason! (between Noon and 5pm has been the worst in the past few days for loosing channels!)

So best try an do a rescan in the evenings when interference is lower.

All channels are restored at rescan, so how could this be the case?

She does a rescan at lunchtime and the channels are still there at night.

Have you/she tried unplugging the aerial, doing a rescan - there'll obviously be no channels found, plug the aerial back in and scan again?

Because it can't save them when you switch off.

It might help if you can tell us make and model of box ?

have you tried deleting unwanted channels, I am sure there are plenty Mother will not want!

The possible reason for the box not holding the channels isthe box is out of date

I have a Philips TV from 2004 ish and it will not store theupdates as the digital system is an old version or something along them lines.(cant remember exactly)

I was told this By Philips themselves when I asked thequestion earlier this year.
    Hope this helps
