Am being offered an X reg in what appears to be good condition.

Does anyone have any comments for or against (based on personal experience)?

No personal experience but have a look on Honest John a very useful site to see what's good and bad

Its bad in a crash, poorly built, relativly expensive to insure and has a chavvy image.

It is however, cheap to buy and put right.

Pays your money, takes your choice. How much is it? For up to £3000 I'd get a Skoda Fabia everytime.

The Saxo is based on a 106 and the 106s i have driven are a hoot to drive, cheap to run and look pretty cool.

My brother had one (VTS I think). Nice enough cars, was fairly reliable in the time he had it.

Though I have a Fabia and that's not gone wrong either so far.

Would consider both if you can see past the image issues both face (one for being chavvy, the other for being a skoda).

Well, I bought the car! Sorry to upset those who seem to be obsessed with this "chavviness" thing, whatever that is.

I can't be bothered with the image business which seems to preoccupy so many people.

A car is just a means of transport. A metal box on wheels to get you from A to B. If you start seeing it as some kind of ego extension, then I'm afraid I view you as one of these clarksons who have unstated but very real psychological issues.

Yeh I would rather not have an accident in one (see link) only 2 stars and the side impact damage was terrible, the poor rating isn't because it's a small car either, the SMART is a 4* i think.

But apart from that, cheap to buy, cheap to run and a cheary little car.

My sister has one. Not bad for nipping about in (but then we are London drivers) and does what she needs it to do.

I affectionately refer to it as 'the crisp packet' because it is so flimsy!

Nobody sees Saxo's as an 'ego extension'. They see it as a cheap car bought by young drivers who insist on spending £6000 kitting it up to look and sound like it should be on the front cover of Max Power but doesn't perform like it.
A lot of young people bought them because of the free insurance and put over the top body kits on - hence 'chavvy'

It is up to you how you view your replies, i did not mention chavs or give any bad opinions about these cars.

Perhaps you should thank some people, who gave you an honest opinion, you may then get a better response when you next ask a question, you wanted opinions, now you seem to want an argument.By the way if a car was just a means of transport, you would know ,without asking ,which one to buy as they would all be the same or similar!!Being a car enthusiast does not suggest psychological problems,or then ,maybe it does as i have been one for more years than i can remember!!
