Lost me electricity meter key yesterday AFTER I had bought credit, and only found I had lost it when I got home from work and it was past the time when the call centre closed.

Had a bit of a worried night last night as its Bank Holiday weekend and I wasnt sure they could send me a replacement key before the electricity ran out.

So I rang this morning at 8am and spoke to a very helpful young lady, who advised where I could get a replacement key , confirmed the credit would be transferred to my new key and was very helpful.

Result ? I now have my new key (with the credit I bought yesterday) and I am very happy - well done Scottish Power.

This might seem a really stupid question but having not been on prepay, how are new keys sought? I had assumed they could only be posted out.

Keys for prepayment meters are usually held in the shops you can top them up in. There is a code (8 digit i believe) that ties the key to your account. This code must be added to the key by the shop and the key inserted into the meter before you put any cash on the key.
