Recieving a bank transfer from USA company?

Options
I'm about to sell an antique painting to a gallery in the US and just wondered how safe a bank transfer payment from them to my current account would be?

Depends on the sequence of events. If the money hits your account before you ship the painting then it should be fine (although even then I'd be tempted to transfer the money elsewhere first so that if a recall is attempted there's nothing there to be recalled). Any other scenario I would be very wary.

To be honest, if this is a valuable painting (tens of thousands upwards) I would be looking into using an escrow account so that both you and the buyer can be confident of getting what you expect.
