I am sure this must have been asked before but I couldnt see it. If I sign up to Primus 2 for my home phone calls do I need to ring BT and let them know? I am currently on BT option 3.

Thanks Jane

I would think if you are paying BT more than the line rental you will have to get out of that first otherwise you will carry on paying them regardless of who else you wan to pay for calls.

You must certainly tell BT you want to downgrade to BT Together Option 1 (or else you'll continue paying for BT Together Option 3).

Don't forget that Primus Saver Option 2 only gives free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls of up to 90 minutes - so you'll need to make alternative arrangements for getting your weekday UK 01/02 calls more cheaply than using BT (see the 'HERE' link in my signature below for how to do that).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. As a sort of related query, what happens if you decide you no longer wish to use Primus? Is it easy to switch outgoing calls back to BT or another provider if you wished to do so? I think I want to use Primus but if it' going to be a right pain in the !!!!! if I have to change provider at any time I'd rather just go with BT option 2!

It should only be necessary to contact the NEW CPS provider and they should do the necessary notifying.

10 to 15 days later, the switch should take place.

Also make sure your not on a 18 month contract with BT on opt 3,as they will charge you for remainder of contract.

And if you're paying BT by monthly Direct Debit you will need to reduce your DD as you'll only owe them £11 a month for line rental (plus 11p a month for the two calls you need to make to get free caller display and/or 1571)

I found moving to primus pretty painless, although they needed some chasing to tell me my account number. My only gripe is that you can't see the calls you make on their website in real time (like you can with 18185 or BT) - you have to wait until they bill you.

Though you may be on whole bill by DD. So they just take out what you owe each payment. They do do monthly whole bill by DD, though when we had BT and first tried to sign up to monthly whole bill by DD they denied they offered it and said it was either monthly payment plan or quarterly whole bill. We no longer have a regular phoneline, but friends and family still have BT and the monthly whole bill option.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

That's what I am doing now so long as BT get it right this month as I only just changed it online. It was OK last month but I changed it after the bill was sent but let it take it by DD, they said it would and it did.

I should be going live with Primus tomorrow.

I had that too, had to phone them up as I had no contact from them at all.

That's a shame, I would like to have been able to do that.
