It's also impossible to find anything you really want among all the "click this! It's the best thing you ever did! Make a million pounds every second, I do!"

    Etc etc ad infinitum.

I am increasingly disillusioned about ebay, both buying and selling.

That's human nature for you. I have friends who are always raving about car boot sales, so I went to a few of them. I reckon two thirds of the people there were selling pirated DVDs or stolen goods - it was the most depressing day out imaginable.

An interesting thought BFG. However, eBay won't die for a very, very long time for a number of reasons (too many to go into all now). A few are that they are one of the biggest websites in the world, with 100s of millions of users, another is that they totally own the marketplace and have no serious competitors. It has only taken eBay ten or so years to get where it is today, an amazing accomplishment anyone has to admit.

Although it seems like there are more and more scammers on eBay, in truth eBay do the best they can (OK they could invest more in their Customer Relations but forget that for now) - eBay can not possibly get rid of every scammer and fraudster, but they do get rid of a lot of them.

There will always be fraudsters on eBay, but let's not forget about the millions of genuine, honest eBayers out there such as myself and people on this forum. As long as we are still using eBay, I see no reason why eBay can not be around in 20 odd years time. I wonder where it will be in 10 years time....I imagine they will be as strong as ever, making use of new technology to stop fraudsters, offering new services and attracting even more newbies. With an empire as big as eBay (and it only being 10 years old) death is along way off yet!
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)

As much as I see/hear eBay is going downhill, I can't see it dying.

With a reported 25% of all UK internet traffic being eBay based, it would take a lot to kill it off here, let alone elswehere.

Even now the figures don't even show them going downhill although they do occasionally have bad months where their sales dip below several million.

Month on month the number of users and people taking out ebay shops are still increasing.

Recently on the uS site there was a massive call for a boycott when the fees increased quite considerably in some areas. The boycott even got mentioned on the news in the US and all over the newsgroups. On the day of the first boycott people placing new listings actually showed a marked decrease, however this was more than made up for by a big increase in the listings for the rest of that week!

Until the next craze comes along ebay will still be there.

One little tip to get around the large companies selling loads of new items, is select on the left hand side condition = used. Then the only items that come up are used items which is where the "smaller people" sell, and you're not forced to look through auction entitled "brand new" this and that.

Oh, my first post. 'ello everyone! :D

You summed it up perfectly BFG.

I used to use eBay, on and off. Got to 57 on feedback at 100% positive but I've now given up altogether.

So, I am a good example of your point - I think you are spot on.
