I know its fashionable at the moment, but I just can't get onboard with it.
If it's overnight then that only really leaves a couple/few hours in the day when the poster goes out. I don't shut mine in crates as they're far too big dogs in a house without space for two 48" crates (not to stay up fulltime anyway, I have a crate stashed for emergency use though) but overnight they rarely move off their beds. My mum's pup was kept in a crate overnight while she was younger too, I don't think it's a big deal when the dog would just be sleeping anyway.
I personally wouldn't choose to crate mine when I went out in the day, as I like knowing that they have room to mooch about, play, etc. to entertain themselves, but I know some dogs need to be crated for their own safety, or even find it less stressful to be crated for a couple of hours. Casper actually chooses to go and sleep in a crate when I have one set up!0 -
I don't use a cage. My dog has proven he can have free reign of the downstairs of my house. I have been very lucky finding a rescue dog that doesn't damage the house or use it as a toilet.
Mine never leaves his bed once he has had his last walk. He basically only moves to go outside to go for a pee lol.0 -

Lots of dogs like to go in a sort of 'den' if the option's there, I"ve got one that sleeps under the coffee table and bumps his head every time he wakes up.
Shutting them in though, I just can't imagine it. Mine sleep in dog beds in my bedroom, but they do get up for a drink, or swap beds occasionally.
Maybe I struggle with the idea because the people I know in real life who shut their dog in a cage do so to keep their house clean, not for the animal's sake.0 -

How do you stop the dogs from jumping onto your bed?
Mine sleep on their dog beds in another bedroom. I used a crate/pen while I was toilet training my pup but I don't use it now although I think some dogs seem to like to be in their crates.0 -

If its really cold I have to encourage them onto the bed to be hot water bottles!0
