Liability insurance for rented cottage abroad

Hello!
Have booked a 'Gite' in France for a week in May. Contract quite rightly stipulates that whilst I'm there, I'm responsible for the property against accidental damage (flood, fire etc....)
Apparently, in France, this is generally included in people's home insurance policies. Not here in the UK it seems, or at least, not the companies I've asked so far.
The insurance is known as "assurance type villegiature" in France. A type of liability insurance I think.
Despite looking all over the internet, I've not yet found anyone that offers this type of cover.... I find this rather surprising considering the amount of Brits that spend holidays in France and rent properties there. Only found companies that cover the owners of either holiday homes or who have properties for rent abroad.
Can anyone help or advise please? I'd be ever so grateful!
Thanks and hope everyone has an excellent Easter weekend!

You travel insurance will include a Public Liability section which would cover you for accidental damage that you cause to the property. Evidently it wouldnt cover natural catastrophe like Flood but assuming you meant flooding the bath tub or such not the local river bursting its bank0

Thank you for your prompt reply!
Have looked into this as thought most covered only travel, medical, cancellations etc...
Just read a couple of example policies, and forgive me for being a bit thick.... but!
I don't understand the following:
What you are covered for
We will pay up to the amount shown in the table of benefits if
you are legally liable for accidentally:
1. injuring someone; or
2. damaging or losing somebody else’s property.
Special exclusions which apply to section B
We will not cover the following:
1. The excess shown in the table of benefits on page 1.
2. Any liability arising from an injury or loss or damage to
property:
- owned by you, a member of your family or household
or a person you employ; or
- in the care, custody or control of you or of your family
or household or a person you employ.
I find both points I've put in Italics contradictive. Would I be covered or not?
And, yes, I meant flooding as in bath overflowing etc! Lol!
Thanks ever so!

Hello!
Can anyone clarify the points above please?
Thanks!0 -
Ask the insurer to clarify any conditions you don't understand and get this in writing if significant to your requirements.0

Ok, thank you.0

Apparently, in France, this is generally included in people's home insurance policies.
You are correct, and the problem is that the owners insurance assumes that everyone renting the property will be French and have insurance for this.
A comprehensive travel insurance policy should provide public liability insurance cover for damage to 3rd party property.
Also try searching for Adar insurance, they may be able to help.0
