Caital One

Options
I have been paying off a capital one credit card for around four years by direct debit (the card was stopped and so was the interest). I have never received any statements to the fact. Recently I got a letter telling me they had sold my debt to CapQuest. They say that I still owe £779. Now Cap Wuest are harrassing me on mobile and landline.

I have two questions really. Can I ask for Capital One to send me statements for the last four years, because they could have jsut picked out the £779 out of thin air for all I know. (yes, I know I should have kept tabs but I didn't ) and how do I stop Cap Quest ringing and texting me all the time?

I have no idea at all where they got my numbers. My landline number is ex directory and is newly changed. i haven't given it to anybody other than friends and family.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You must have known how much was owed when the account was suspended, interest halted and a payment plan was established with the provider to repay the amount you owed.

As you were repaying this by DD, then your bank can provide you details of how much you have paid in total.

Does the letter from Capital One explain why, if you were in an agreed repayment plan that you had been keeping to for the past 4 years, your remaining debt was now being passed to a debt recovery agent?
If not, I suggest you contact Capital One and ask them ;)

They would have sold the debt for their own commercial reasons regardless of whether you were keeping to you arrangement or not.

Your contact details may have come from Cap1.

As a debt perchaser they will also utilise a number of tools to trace people.

Have you entered into any conversation with CapQuest, can they show what the break down of the £779 debt is. All from Cap1 or with a fee added. That may stop the harrassment.
