7 year old struggling at school - Dyslexia / Dyspraxia?
Comments

Thanks for all comments and suggestions so far.
He brought a little booklet home from school yesterday which he had made about things he has been doing at school this term and to be honest his spelling is terrible, for example 'ingoyd' (enjoyed), muvsday (mothers day).
He is also quite forgetful, for example he will always leave his bedroom or bathroom light on, despite me reminding him several times, or will quite often forget to pick his school bag up.

Can I say that all kids are different, and some are simply less academic than others. Whilst conditions such as dyslexia and dyspraxia certainly exist, and diagnosis is important in arranging the correct support, sometimes we're too quick to jump to a 'label'.
There's the possibility that your son simply isn't that interested in academic pursuits, zippy. That might change as he gets older and he finds his niche, or his talents might just lie in other areas.
Have a word with the school to discuss dyslexia etc. further so that you can put your mind at rest. But try not to exhaust yourself looking for a 'diagnosis'. He sounds totally normal and the main thing is that he's happy and confident in himself."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

That's phonics for you! I loved my niece's spelling of patients - 'payshunts'
Most 7 year olds are terrible spellers. Encourage him to read more (if he's willing!)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
