  • not a problem as such, but would like something faster to enable me to multi task a bit more, if possible.

is this the xp system you posted about before, poor multitasking is often a ram/commit charge or software problem rather than the processor.

The last time I posted was a long while ago and I think it was about a slow system...due to belt and braces on anti spyware.Must be a couple of years ago.Do you have a photographic memory ?

no, but know about the find all threads started by xx function and do remember some names.

task manager will tell you if it's a processor problem or not, unless you are doing something heavy like gaming or video encoding, I wouldn't expect the processor to be a limitation.

the list was low-mid range processors, but anything built in the last 6 years or so should cope with average use easily

  • I'll keep an eye on the task manager for a while. Thanks.

As others have mentioned, the limiting factor might not be the processor when multi-tasking. I reckon you may need to upgrade your RAM. How much RAM do you have?

the semperon 3400+ comes in at 460 on CPU benchmark, and will show it's age a little ( I know, I'm still running a semperon 3000+, scores around 370 :( )

If you can find an Socket AM2 dual-core Athlon as closed highlighted, you would see a slight improvement :)

Can you download CPU-Z and tell us the motherboard model number?
You need to find out what your motherboard support.

If it is not known, I just assume your mobo only take AM2 CPU, you can find second handed in ebay. Just search Athlon 64 x2 CPU.

Also, it tell you how much RAM you have got.
