santander123 opened one day closed the next

Options
as above i thought i would open a santander123 account online so filled in all the spaces on the form and applied 24hrs later i was accepted, however they did say that not all the information i supplied matched what they had on file for me and could i supply various bits of id to verify who i was etc so they could merge my accounts. Mmmmm strange i thought i have never had an account with santander, phoned them up and apparently i had an account with them that was closed in 2009................not by myself. all i can think is the info they had and the account was a very old account i used to have with lloyds bank some 23yrs ago which i stopped using maybe 22yrs ago.
anyway i closed the new application/account as it sounded pretty messed up even before it started.

Hmmm I don't see how a Lloyds Account will have anything to do with having a Santander Account as they are separate banking organisations, and neither has access to each others system!!!

Are you sure you didn't have some sort of account with Santander or one of the banks they took over? Don't forget they took over abbey national, Alliance and Leicester, Bradford and Bingley.

You may have had an account with one of these and this is what they can see on there systems.

Could you have had a loan from buying some consumer product (even an interest free loan) that is provided by the bank?

Don't think it's Cahoot since I believe the systems aren't integrated. Could be some credit card though. Whatever it is, we cannot sort it out on here, the OP needs to check their credit file and talk to Santander. Or just move on, but any discrepancies might be picked up by other banks too.

Whom is your credit card with? could that have possibly been taken over by Santander card division?

I had something similar with another bank (HSBC) when i applied for a current account after I graduated. I was accepted but it seemed to be closed.

I think what has happened is you have been accepted for the account but because you applied online, your details probably havent passed certain electronic checks. This happened to me. I had just changed my address but hadnt updated the electoral register so they werent able to confirm that the info the had on me was correct but cross checking with info bureaus like the electoral register. Also I had a savings account with them when i was a child which was closed down years ago but they still had a record on the system. If they have old details for you then thats why your account hasnt been opened. Your old info conflicts with your present info hence the request for id. Its a pain but id imagine its to prevent fraud.

As far as i know Santander are Abbey, bradford and bingley and alliance and leicester just. Cahoot from its website looks to be a subsidiary.
