So wheres the money?!

Hi, im a single parent

Ive been on IS for 18 months but last week I went back to work. I told the job centre who told me they would inform IS and that I would get £250 to tide me over untill I got paid

Well I got a letter on Saturday saying my IS was going to stop and I got a cheque for £17. So I assumed the £250 would be in my bank today, though its not mentioned on the letter.

Well ive just checked my bank and theres nothing in there - im rather desperate for the money so slightly panicing now

What happened?

Sorry to ask, but are you going to be much better off, going back to work? when i went back in 2003, i was very little better off, they wernt doing this extra £40 a week for a year, i am really hoping to be much better of this time!!

I thought single parents got two weeks run on IS payments and four weeks HB. I'd check that - and make sure you get them to fast track your new tax credit claim too. They can definitely do that.

    Good luck!

OK spoke to them, aparently it takes 3 working days to go through so should get it tomorrow (doesnt help me today though)

Im certain it stops straight away now, you get the 'bonus' instead

You still get 4 weeks HB and council tax benifit though

Im not going to be much better off once you take into account child care fees and travel expenses but its better than nowt

nly going back part time - its works out your better off part time than you are full time which is rediculous
