Hi, I want to go away for Xmas this year but need some sun!
Can anyone recomend somewhere that will be hot, have lots to do and be suitable for me & a 12 year old. I will be travelling by myself as well.
Thanks, Dawn

it depends on your budget. I love Barbados, particularly at Xmas and some of the AIs have lots to do for children. St Lucia's nice too, whilst the Dominican Republic is a cheaper option, but nothing comes cheap at Xmas.0

Canaries.
No contest. :beer:I know nothing - really!!0 -
Its just over a 4 hour flight, Tenerife is the most comercialised, but all the main 4 are good for family's, can be a bit cloudy especially feurteventura and lanzarote in winter but 70 degrees plus by day and around 60 degress overnight, South tenerife probably the best for sunshine in winter, went to Los americas 2 years ago at Xmas and it was boiling up in the 80's, With children I would not stay in the centre of this resort, The Torviscas and Costa Adjede area's would be better for family's although the centre area is quieter in the winter months. The neighbouring resort of Los Cristianos is a good family resort. Also you get your light back, sun rises around 7am and sets after 6pm, and as long as your careful can be quite cheap.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
I say Egypt, I have been twice and I never normally do a repear visit, it was fab both times. The AI's are such good value and fantastic service, also very clean and lots to do in the hotels, watersports, v cheap spa treatments, good organised trips if you want to do them and in my experience, very good food. I went to Hurgada the first time (the town is grotty but if you just want to stay in hotel, where there was lots to do, it is perfect) and went to Taba Heights last time (I think) which was also very good.0

I've never been away at Christmas but my kitchen gets pretty hot;). Seriously I fancy a barbie on the beach in Oz, my cousin sent an email on Christmas day saying it was over 30C ...sounds good to me.:j0

Gambia. Very hot.
Never been there though. Just thinking about this now.0 -
Dubai. Very good standard of hotels. Jumeirah Beach is more expensive than city Centre but the resort hotels are fabulous and most have their own beach area. There are water parks,Amusement parks,go karts etc. The scale of the place is MASSIVE so you would need to taxi it from A to B but they are really cheap. Booze is expensive but eating out is cheap otherwise and there are lots some really good resturants.
Shopping-For those that like it-no where better0 -
Southern Florida. Lovely temps , Friendly people, cheap to eat out, great shopping and not busy at all!!! Went last year just before Christmas had a fab time!!!0

Goa, sun and sand, lots of "interesting" things happening, lots of food, lots of genuine Christmas activities as a significant part of the population is Catholic.
If you do decide to go to Egypt BTW Sharm-el-Sheik is far preferable to Hurghada unless you want to go to Luxor for the Valley of the Kings and the like.0
