Car write off and hire car costs

A delivery driver hit my parked car and has hit the bumper, back panel, and both doors. The car is an 06 reg and Glasses guide says £3800 market value. Repair co have said they've told insurer £2600 to fix. Insurer now wants Engineer to see car as they think it likely a write off....so waiting for inspection.

I have asked insurer and repair place if insuer (Direct Line) include the hire car cost that is being claimed from 3rd party in their write off calculations, because if they do I'll be way over 75% marker. Both said no they do not include yet everywhere on net when I search says it is included.....anyone know if I am being told lies?

If it is included I would not have took the hire car at £50 per day!

Thanks for any advice

Hire car costs will not be included in the repair costs. A third party insurer if dealing direct with you may put this into consideration but your own insurer will not.
Not sure where on the internet it's stating this?

It says on a lot of write off discussion around the net that hire car cost are added into the total cost to put your car back on the road. Makes sense say car £2600 to repair plus hire car 10 days at £60 a day = £3200. Hopefully I have been told the truth that it will not be factored in and there is a small hope they will sanction repairs.

    £60 day? You can dream!

The promise of a loaner car is rarely the need it is seems to be, due to the repairer providing a vehicle as part of their service - so it HAS no cost, it is inclusive of the charge the insurer pays the firm, and of course your excess which is also paid to the repairer.

If the repairer had no vehicle to offer you, one will be rented but the cap cost is £25 day, and again the cost for this is paid by the repairer. The longest rental I have ever seen is 3 days - for obvious reasons.

In the case of a write-off, no loaner is provided - a settlement is agreed instead.

I have the hire car and the invoice for the 3rd party of £60 per day it is that price as I am in a car that matches what I have lost. I have had it 7 days to date , hence why I am worried it is racking up towards not being cost effective to repair!

Even if your car is expensive to repair, your policy will have had a similar uplift so there will be a quid pro quo on any loaner. However, be wary of external deals where the hire is supposedly to be recovered directly from the guilty party. There are many cases of the bill being challenged and it is you (as the hirer) held liable if the other party's insurer challenge the cost - this will happen if it is deemed unreasonable.

It should not have any bearing on whether your car should be written off. If you like the car and the repairer agrees to you doing a deal directly, you often get the best of both worlds - a settlement, and your car back. But it all hinges on what the actual damage is. Sourcing after market or previously scrapped parts instead of OEM makes considerable savings.
