Received letter from EON today saying they are transferring my Central Heating Care contract to a firm called Home Energy Services Ltd from 5 April. Am somewhat concerned by absence of explanation and lack of notice!

Does anyone know anything more about this? Who is Home Energy Services Ltd ? Does this change mean that I can cancel my annual contract without penalty and take my business to a better known company?

Unlikely you can cancel the contract - but check the small print. If there is no clause permitting assignment of the contract, you might be in with a chance. You do need to know your stuff if you are going down this road.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

    Hi itsj2

To be honest, I'm not sure of the details behind this change. I'll find out, though.

Probably after Easter now but should be able to post again some time next week.

    Sorry don't know now.

it's good when even E.ON don't know what's going on, really fills you with confidence
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Don't think so - the letter from EON states that Home Energy Services Limited is a new company and implies that it will be separate from EON in that it will be taking on its staff.

What further explanation do you require?
The rights and obligations of the provider will pass to a new company.

It's a newly formed limited company that has the same registered address of the previous provider.

No, as per the terms you agreed to:

    6.1 YOUR CONTRACT

    • ...
    • We may transfer all of Our rights and obligations under this Contract to another company. If we do so, We will inform You as soon as We are reasonably able to do so. Neither Your rights nor Our obligations and liabilities under this Contract will be affected by any transfer.

Actually there is no penalty for cancelling your contract, but you will still owe the 12 month minimum fee you agreed to pay (even if it was agreed you could pay this monthly by installments whilst under contract)

    Hi itsj2

Sorry it’s taken so long to come back to you.

I can confirm, our central heating care business has been taken over by a new company. This company is called Home Energy Services.

Home Energy Services is being led by members of the current management team. The same people will be doing the job – on the end of the telephone or among our fleet of technicians and engineers.

Contact details are staying the same too.

We’re working hard to make the transition as seamless as possible. Your heating system will have continuous cover throughout this period.

Your contract will remain in place and be honoured by the new company on the same terms and conditions. You will be able to terminate your cover at the end of your current contract as specified in the terms and conditions.

Hope this explains what’s happening itsj2 and sorry again for the delay finding out these details.
