Kindle 3G Paperwhite - any point with 3G?

Hey all,

My Kindle 3 died (the one with the keypad). The 3G version of the Kindle 3 let people browse the internet with the experimental web browser. You could access that wherever in the world for free.

Does the Paperwhite one offer this too? Or is it locked down?

Ta muchly

didn't know that but had a quick look on amazon, seems to have free 3g

    Free, always-connected 3G
wireless lets you shop and download books virtually anywhere - no hunting for
Wi-Fi hotspots. There are no plans, annual contracts, or monthly fees for this
service, which works globally in selected coverage areas. Kindle Paperwhite 3G
is connected and ready to go the moment you take it out of the box. No setup
    required. Browse network
    coverage

That only means you can buy and download books over the 3G though. I think the wording was the same as when the Kindle 3s came out, but they have an "Experimental Browser" which gives you normal web over 3G too.

hmmm, interesting - found this on the amazon page too

Kindle Paperwhite 3G makes it easy for you to search. Enter a word or phrase
and Kindle will search every instance across your Kindle library, in the Kindle
Store, on Wikipedia, or the Web using Google search. Kindle Paperwhite 3G
features an experimental WebKit-based browser to provide a better experience on
    your e-reader.

but seems to be worded carefully, best bet would be to trawl through the q&a and reviews i guess...

Blast - it appears to be restricted - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200996500
    Connecting to Free 3G
For Kindle Paperwhite models that include Free 3G, wireless connectivity is automatic with no monthly fees or annual contracts.

If you see one of the 3G network indicators (3G, EDGE, or GPRS) in the upper right corner of your Kindle Paperwhite screen, your Kindle Paperwhite is already connected wirelessly using 3G. Your Kindle Paperwhite automatically turns 3G coverage off when you connect using Wi-Fi.

If you disconnect from a Wi-Fi network or if you move out of Wi-Fi range, Kindle Paperwhite automatically switches back to 3G coverage. If you want to turn off 3G coverage, set your Kindle Paperwhite to Aeroplane Mode (this also turns off Wi-Fi).

If you have a Wi-Fi and 3G Kindle Paperwhite, 3G is unable to be disabled on its own.

Note: When using the experimental web browser, you'll only be able to access Amazon.co.uk and Wikipedia using the 3G connection. Unrestricted web access is available by connecting your Kindle Paperwhite to a Wi-Fi connection.
