Best 2.1 TV Speakers under £100 with remote control

Hi,
Can someone point me in the direction of some decent 2.1 speakers under £100 for the TV that come with a remote control which you can adjust the volume with.

I need a remote control for the speakers as when you connect speakers to my tv, you can't adjust the volume using the tv remote anymore.
Any help is much appreciated.

there was a set of creative ones i-trigue or something that had a remote with them, I had some logitech ones before that were decent but the remote was wired...
  • Just looked at all the creative I-trigue ones and they all seem to have wired remotes, thanks anyway.

  • I appreciate this might not be answering your question but thought it might be worthwhile suggesting an approach without the sub..

IMO the type of setup you'll get from an off the shelf 2.1 around the £100 mark could be improved by dropping to 2.0 and buying an amp/speakers. You'll get both improved sound quality and more versatility. So for example:

    Wharfdale 9.0 speakers = £50
    CA AM1 Amplifier = £40

This type of setup would also give you the option of adding a sub at a later date. You could even pick a second hand one up of ebay for £20 or so in the mean time if you consider absolutely essential.

I suggest you take the speaker problem to Richer Sounds, a company I consider the finest in the electricals business.

As for the TV, on my Sony and some others it is possible to change the line output to either be volume (level) controlled by the remote or not by a setting in the TV. Yours may be the same.

Where do you find CA AM1 for £40?
I think they are at £80.
  • Checked the settings on my LG 42LX6900 TV, no way to change volume from TV remote if you connect speakers.
Also the TV only has optical out for sound but I bought an adapter.

Thanks for the help everyone, looks like an amp and speakers might be the best way to go.
I did get some 2.1 speakers: Microlab M-910U, but they aren't great, so I am looking for better ones.
  • Optical out is a good way to go. The output from optical out is digital and since speakers require an amps require analog signals, you'll need a Digital-to-Analog convertor (DAC). The cheapest I know of is made by CYP is about £30 which is pretty good value. I guess you've got one of these already by the sounds of it.

I agree richer sounds is a good place to go, they have sound advice, price match online prices and over fantastic guarantees. It might be worth looking on ebay at speakers/amp too, they seem to have a pretty good life if well looked after and could well offer improved sound quality for your money. Another suggestion would be to look on the classified ads on avforums (or post on their forum for further advice)
