Things people say about getting a job that really wind you up

What do people say to you, or make assumptions about, when they know you are jobseeking / being unemployed ? Ones that really annoy you (even if they are true, but you have heard them so many times you are sick of them). Like the "plenty more fish in the sea" when you get dumpted

I'll start
1. From a job, you'll get a job.
2. can't you just apply for a shelf stacker or something like that?
3. any job is better than no job.
4.You are being too narrow in your job search
5. Is your CV up todate? is your covering letter OK?

Any other things from Family, Friends on the JC that just make you feel totally worthless or just down right annoyed?

I find the same annoyances from people who are unemployed (through choice or not) and give the the same old responses, to be fair.

But the questions that did annoy me were: 'any job news?' or 'have you got a job yet?'
I often felt like shouting YOU'LL BE THE FIRST TO KNOW.

"There are jobs out there, you just have to look for them."

    ... I see. I hadn't thought of that -_-

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

Because it's their job, they are just trying to do it in a friendly manner.

  • Things people say about having a job that really wind me up:

At least you've got a job
You're lucky to have a job
Any job is better than no job
You should be grateful you've got a job
  • "I think things are getting much better and are not as bad as last year or the 1980 s."

    This is rubbish.

As is this one (for those already in employment). "Its easier to get a job when your in a job" I've found this to be a totally incorrect.

"Do cleaning or something..It'll be a start!." O yeah most places that employ cleaners want people with previous paid cleaning experience, 5 year good references and a clean CRB. So that rules out a lot of people to begin with.

People thinking it's easy to get a job, or when people say do volunteering to get experience(so I'm gonna get a job shot blasting, by painting a wall in a church or delivering charity shop furniture.

Also the old chesnut of it's easier to get employment when employed total rot in my opinion.

My bugbear was the people who said "look more locally, you'll have more chance".

    1) I had no connections as it was a new area to me
    2) I worked in a industry/job that my contacts didn't shmooze with competitors who I could possibly have found work with.
    3) I was looking locally and there was nothing around!
