Right, fairly new Asus laptop,(out of warrnty) had a "lock Up" to cut a long story short, it now working ok apart from the fact that the wireless connection keeps dropping out (if the comp is started up, usually) Ive got another comp that work fine on wi-fi, so its not the router.
if the ethernet cable is plugged in, it works fine. So when the wi-fi drops out, you get the "wi fi bars", bottom right on the comp with a red cross on them, so "Troubleshoot-fix this problem" & wi fi connects back, usually till the next time its started up. Tried the usual, run umpteen virus checks, etc, system restore, etc, still no joy.
Ive seen these wi fi dongles for less than £5 delivered, (the sort used on old computers without Wifi) is it possible to try one of these, to "By pass" the wi fi part of the Lappy? would seem to be a cheap option, IF it works., Thanks.

are you using a wireless mouse, if so unplug it and see how it is with the mouse removed.
look in device manger, all enabled. no exclamation marks next to te nic0 -
a USB wifi device will work, no need to disable normal wifi. You may need a cable connection to download the drivers0
