Hi,most on here would probably enter to win an empty envelope or to see one being opened,at a premiere of course :-)
Ethics & rapid comping are distant bedfellows it seems.

Bit of an unneccessary dig at fellow compers who have done nothing to deserve it.

    I'd absolutely enter the comp.

On a personal note, it irritates me when I see people winning all-natural cosmetics when I know that they actually couldn't care less what was in their face cream.

I don't have a choice about what my skin will tolerate - I can't pop down to Boots and pick up a pot of Olay. Instead it costs a fortune for me to afford products that won't leave my skin burned and raw.

If the people who won these items actually followed a natural beauty routine, then that would be fine - but when you know that a lovely Trilogy serum is being layered under some L'Oreal moisturiser, it really grates.

Agree ^ makes me cringe! Still I can't say much as I do enter for some things I wouldn't use but I would like for my family... am trying to limit that though and just concentrate on myself.

I mainly just try and enter for organic toiletries now as I only use them - the facebook pages of some of the smaller natural companies I have bought from for years are now flooded with people who don't care about the products - noticed on some of them that ask you to state what you use in order to win and the winners were people who use all chemical products - I suppose the companies may hope some people change their view.

I mostly skip kids and wedding comps but I do enter the odd one if it's something that anyone can use and I want it!

Hi,no dig intended & I include myself in the envelope gang :-)

If that's the only "dig" that us "compers" get we'll be OK.

Well I am pregnant, and I personally don't mind who else is entering these comps alongside me, pregnant or not! If it's a non-pregnancy related prize I'd fully expect all and sundry to enter. We already have two pushchairs (I have one son already), one is a travel system, the other is a lightweight stroller. But I still enter competitions to win a new one. My others, particularly the stroller, are well-used, so it would be lovely to have a new one when the baby comes. But do we need it? Not really. There have been some competitions I haven't entered, usually those for a large value of money which kits out your entire nursery for you. We already have all that kind of stuff, so frankly winning more would just clutter up the house and I can't be doing with the faff of selling wins. Everyone has their reasons for comping and for wanting the prizes, whether it's a desperately longed for item, something that a friend or family member would be grateful of, or something that will sell easily on Ebay. At the end of the day, as long as the entrant is not breaking the t&c's, no one person is more entitled to a prize than any other person. Lady Luck will smile on whomsoever she sees fit.
:hello:Hello and thanks to all you gorgeous MSErs posting comps, answers and advice xx

last 5 prizes I won I gave to friends family or shared - apart from cake or chocolate, then that's mine! It's my hobby I can do what I want with it.

I never have time to enter every competition I see, so I only do the ones for prizes I would use myself or for a close family member.

A couple of years ago i won a spa break, but between entering and finding out I'd won, we'd had new foster children placed with us. When the company rang to tell me I'd won I thanked them but said I couldn't accept the prize as I wouldn't be able to leave these children. They only went and changed the prize for bikes and helmets for the little ones which I thought was amazing of them! I now don't enter any competitions for holidays or tickets though, unless I know we can definitely go as I doubt we'd come across a competition organiser as nice again :) (Morrisons, btw :A)

Aww, that's really heart warming - they probably thought it was amazing what you were doing for those kids and I fully agree. The world needs more people like you :A

I would enter if the prize wasn't pregnancy specific. If they don't ask for a due date and there's nothing to say you have to be pregnant then they can't object to people who aren't entering. I wouldn't see it as taking away from someone who is expecting, especially if it's a luxury item and not pregnancy related. I don't think people should rely on winning prizes, it's just a bit of fun and the luck of the draw. Most comps are picked randomly anyway so I think it's unnecessary when people get into arguments over who is more deserving and post sob stories.

I enter some competitions for kid's items even though I don't have any because I would just save the prizes for when I do, give them away or donate them. I don't enter competitions for family holidays because I think it's nicer if a family gets them and anyway I can't magic up kids if they are a requirement! I enter competitions for gluten free hampers because I would give them to my mum and step dad who both have a gluten intolerance, I wouldn't enter if I didn't know anyone who could use it. I must admit I've never thought twice about entering competitions for natural beauty products because I do prefer them, especially since I'm vegan. But I could wear synthetic products if I wanted because my skin isn't that sensitive so I guess I don't deserve natural beauty products as much but when you start worrying about every little thing where do you draw the line?

I enter some wedding competitions even though I am married because we couldn't afford to go on honeymoon at the time so I'm trying to win one. I checked with one site that this was OK and they were fine with it. I just enter my wedding date when asked even though it's in the past.

For me a definite "no" I would not enter for pregnancy, wedding etc for one simple reason. I do not want to be bombarded with junk email re pregnancies/weddings etc as they have absolutely no relevance to me whatsoever. Likewise I never enter mumsnet comps even though they have some great prizes coz I am not a mum and again I do not want emails in relation to this.
