Suspicious activity on account

Options
Just checked my main bank account and have found Wonga Loans have taken a payment £305:eek: I have NEVER had dealings with this company, I don't recognise the payment below it either which is to Symonds Hydroclean in Newport for £1.80.
Last month I also had a payment of £57.50 go in that I didn't reconise and asked the bank to trace, they sent me the details but I am still none the wiser! Any ideas on what's going on and what the best course of action is?
If you don't ask, you don't get! ;)

Sounds like someone has your card details and has used them to take a loan out with Wonga - seems to be very common since Wonga made a big play of how good they were at routing out fraud. The 1.80 was probably a test transaction to see if the card details were live.

You need to get on to your bank's fraud department (not the call centre monkeys) and report all 3 transactions as fraudulent and get your card cancelled.

You could also try advising Wonga, but they may not be able to trace the loan as it is possible not going to match your details (unless someone has your address, DOB etc.).

Thank you very much for the advise, I have reported it to my banks fraud team, they have cancelled my card and are going to refund the Wonga loan debit. The £1.80 turns out to be the parking charge at Ikea Southampton which I did make! New card in the post, and I can still use internet banking to pay my bills.

Sorry if this is going off topic or is not the right thread but wondered if anyone had had this problem. I was checking my bank account online pre going shopping. There was not as much in there as I thought. (not usually a lot as a pensioner :() On going through recent transactions there were three amounts debited to my account. One on Easter Sunday when I was at home with family and two for identical amounts a few days later. These were for Game retail Ltd. I never shop in that store so knew this was wrong. On phoning the bank to sort this out they told me they were chip and pin transactions. As I said I never shop there, my card has not been stolen, no one, not even my daughters know my pin. However the lady I spoke to sort of inferred that the fraud team would investigate but because it was a chip and pin I would probably not be refunded. They seem to have the attitude that chip and pin cannot be used fraudulently if you are still in possession of the card which I'm sure is not true. I have lost almost £100 which may not seem an enormous amount to some people but if you are living on a state pension it is. Has anyone else had experience of this and if so, what happened

I would post a new thread about your problem. I've seen a few threads like this in the past but dont know enough about it to comment. I would have thought that if you have the card it must prove them to be wrong.

Since posting this this morning I have checked my account as my daughter was going to transfer some money into my account for me. I saw an amount and the word transfer next to it and assumed she had done so but it was for an odd amount and some change. I re checked and it is the total amount of the money that was taken from my account so it has been refunded. There must have been some error made but its a bit worrying that money can just be taken like that from your account for something that you didn't purchase. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to have got it back but will be speaking to the bank to see whats going on and when my new card comes I will be being extra careful.:)

You may find there's a letter in the post. Banks are required to refund immediately a fraud is reported, but may re-debit later if they decide the original transaction is genuine.
