Drive into York and check out the Railway Museum, (and its free entry.) My favorate place in York is the Castle Museum, the kids would love it.

If you drive to York, use the park and ride - there is very little parking in the centre. But the city is very compact and easy to get around on foot (Alternatively, you could also take the train, as York station is very central, but as I recall from when I looked into doing something similar it is quite an expensive trip for the distance)0 -
thanks folks:)
Just got to convice the wife she wants to cancel the holiday !0 -
Its around an hours drive (just over 40 miles) from Scarborough to outskirts of York 1 1/2 hours top in to York city due to congestion or an hour on train
Its easier as said to walk around York not a large city centre
Its a but cold here in Scarborough but not as cold as York so I got told by parcel man who comes from York.is it far to York ? dont mind traveling as long as we are warm0 -
North Yorkshire is a wonderful place to be in mid summer. It can't be beat!
It sounds as if you have got a 1986 type weather system over the UK this coming Easter. I remember getting on a coach that Easter in Scarborough & it was perishing with constant snow flurries off the North sea. Six hours later in London it was t-shirt weather & that's the way it was all Easter.
If you are off to Flamingoland give Pickering library a try - modern with coffee machine & toilets. There is also a steam railway there.:beer:0 -
