SFE playing me around? :(

For several years I've received the SSG as I have been on ESA and not working. So I meet two of the criteria: Income related ESA and out of work for 28 weeks or more.
I sent in new (updated) evidence i.e. a letter only a month old saying I get ESA for this coming academic year starting in September and they say it's not good enough they need all the sheets for some reason (there are 4 sheets, I sent them sheet 1 which says I get it and what I get - and it has always been good enough in the past!)
So I send in the other pages which is just gobbledegook i.e. a breakdown of what I get etc.
They've now changed my current year (i.e. 2012/13) from SSG to Maintenance grant. What are they playing at?
They were meant to change this coming year's (2013/14) from maintenance grant to SSG but instead they have updated last years (12/13) application with the Maintenance grant. No letter of correspondence has appeared yet and the payments haven't been changed to reflect this in the my payments list but I suspect they will do as this was only changed yesterday.
I am really worried now. What are they playing at, can someone help?

I have worked at HSBC Bank in various departments both customer facing and process-related for six years. However, any advice given is my own.
