Refund for services not received

In June 2012 I paid for an advert to be placed in a 2013 magazine, however the magazine has still not materialised and yet the company assures me it is still going ahead. Surely the point of a 2013 magazine is that it is available from January 2013. Is there any way I can insist on a refund?

    Not at all.

I subscribe to a quarterly magazine and I've not any 2013 issues yet; the first one is published end March 2013 and is usually delivered about 14 days later.

Maybe the magazine you placed an advert in is a special New Years Eve edition. ;)

One would have thought anyone placing an advert would have enquired before placing any order, let alone handing over your hard earned cash, the date of publication

What is the company name? It sounds like an awfully familiar case...

It is a company that organises wedding fayres. I have exhibited at a couple of their events and very naively jumped at the chance of advertising in their magazine. They stated it was a magazine for 2013 so as a new business in 2012 I thought it would get my name out there. As it currently stands I am not getting very much business at present and may very well go bump before they even get round to publication!

Your second post is a bit concerning OP, if you are putting all your faith in one advert that is a worry as sometimes adverts can have absolutely zero effect. Surely you need to be plugging away on facebook and twitter daily and have a list of publications and wedding fairs arranged for the whole of 2013?

I know very little about the wedding industry...but I do know most suppliers and venues seem to be booked 12 months in advance. Ideally you'd want your 2013 bookings nearly full and be planning your 2013 publicity to start booking up for 2014. I'd hate to be a startup in the wedding industry as there must be a 12 month lead time before you even start seeing any cash.

Obviously I am not putting my faith in this one publication. I have advertisements all over and I exhibit at several wedding fayres, I leaflet drop, newspaper articles, word of mouth. I do everything I possibly can. My business is classed more as a luxury item and therefore is something that is only booked a few weeks in advance of an event.

Anyway, I have now found evidence that the publication should have been issued in January and have therefore complained and will be refunded accordingly.

Thank you to those of you who responded positively rather than criticising me.
