Shock horror after genuine parking fee error - all guidance welcome!

Today I made a genuine error. I thought two hours' parking would cost £2.20 when in fact it was £2.40. The paperwork (in one of those yellow and black hatched plastic wraps) attached to my windscreen on my return was for a fine of £120 (plus £20 per week), reduced to £70 if paid within 7 days. I clearly intended to stay for longer than one hour otherwise why would I have inserted two pound coins plus the twenty pence? The company name on the paperwork is Car Parking and Select Servies in Mansfield Notts. (Not on the list of 'approved' suppliers.) Is this reasonable for central Doncaster - or anywhere, for that matter? Any thoughts/suggested courses of action gratefully received. I'm still in shock. Seventy quid for a twenty pence mistake? Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Ignore them, they are not on the BPA AOS list , so can't get registered keeper details of the vehicle unless you tell them. When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Reasonable?! It has as much legal clout as a Burger King flyer on your car. Laugh at it - this isn't a 'shock', it's a scam and you'll hear no more.
DO NOT EVER RESPOND TO A PPC WHICH IS NOT AN AOS MEMBER.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you, bondylad, for your response - I was really knocked for six yesterday. You're quite right - it does say 'parking charge notice' on the ticket ie no mention of 'penalty'. Thanks again from ladycub.0

Thank you, Stroma, for your comment on my predicament. Yes, I had read that bit on the MSE website about the DVLA not divulging my address to any company not on the approved list and realised that if I wrote to them giving my contact details that would be giving the game away. I'm simply knocked out by the kindness of strangers with these helpful comments. Was feeling pretty low yesterday after receiving the ticket - so huge thanks again from ladycub.0

If by any chance they do contact you through the post, we need to know as they will have acted dishonestly, possibly with the collusion of others in the "trade".
Be sure to come back on and get some more help if it happens.0 -
I am not quite sure how you can pay £2.20 instead of £2.40. Why would a ticket machine issue a ticket if the amount inserted is not sufficient to cover the cost of parking. Or am I missing something?
Sounds as if there is scam operating somewhere.( Apart from the PPC's normal scam)I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Perhaps it was £1.20 for one hour or £2.40 for two. So a ticket worth £1.20 was issued and it kept the change thinking it was a tip.Can I help?0 -

Yes, that's exactly what happened, rdwarr - sorry I didn't explain it very well. It was my error but it must have been clear that I intended to pay for two hours because I inserted the two pound coins. Harsh lesson to learn but on the other hand I've been really touched by all the fantastic info which has come my way via the MSE website. Powerful stuff. Thanks for your comment, rdwarr. Best wishes from ladycub.0
