When is part time not part time??

If you don't want to work all those half days then why not offer to do 3 full days and one half day. this would then give you 3 full days off each week.

Part time is not a set number of hours or days; it's anything less than full time for that job/company.
Unless you really want this job, then forget it if the hours do not suit you.
Reminds me of a p/t job I once had, paid pro rata, and I actually worked more hours than a so-called full timer who was paid on a full contract - grr!

I work for a local authority and anything less than the 37 hours of a full time post s considered part time. I used to do 18.5 hours which is half time but now do 24.5 hours. Both are classed as part time. I work approx 10-3 Mon -Fri now. I used to do 2.5 days or 10-3 Mon - thurs.

It seems you have just had a miss understanding about what is part time. If it doesn't suit just say no thanks. I don't really think the employer has one anything under hand.

So you do 2 days, other person does 1.5 or whatever?
