Hi, does anyone know what kind of credit check is recorded when you apply for a new bank account? Would it be full check or just ID & address check? I don't need an overdraft.
I'm just about to apply for a mortgage and the bank I'm going to apply with gives better offers if you open a current account with them, but am worried it will be recorded as a full credit check and go against my mortgage app? So I might get a better mortgage rate or it might go against me and mortgage declined?
So i might not bother in case it has an adverse effect? Any advice please?
Thanks.

It will be a full check.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

They will do a full credit check!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0

If you get a debit card then you can go into an unauthorised overdraft, so they'll do a full credit check before offering you the account.
Why not just ask if you can open both at the same time when you discuss your finances with the advisor? Then you only need one check.0 -
Thanks everyone, won't bother then in case it affects by mortgage app, good to know x0

Note that even if you get your mortgage, it can be revoked at any time before exchange of contracts, so once you get it don't apply for any credit products until you've signed and completed.0
