Accident History for Pot Holes?

Hi there, I have recently fallen fowl of two very dangerous pot holes in my local area which have failed to be filled by our local council. I have checked on their pot hole reports site to find the faults have been reported weeks back.
I was urged by my tyre repair man to put in a clam to the council highways department to get full reimbursement for the damage caused by their dangerous pot hole. The damage currently amounts to one replacement tire @ £150. The garage also say the wheels are badly aligned and this would cost a further £95. The mechanic has also noticed that the inside of the wheel appears slightly buckled.
All of this has happened to the front near side wheel (the one I hit the pot hole with). The car was bought from a dealership less than 4 months ago so I know none of these faults were present when I bought the car.
I have had a look on the council website and it seems to suggest that they would be checking my car insurance details if I was to put in a claim. I have no problem with this but would have a problem with this being listed in my accident history. I have been carefully driving to build up my no claims. I have one more year to go and I can get protected no claims.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot avoid this being part of your history if you make a claim.
But as you are not making any claim off your own policy, your ncd isn't going to be impacted by this.
Do some dummy quotes online (with and without the claim on your history) to see what difference this claim on your history makes to the premium.0 -
Isn't it a reportable "incident" whatever you do?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

By strictest definition this should be declared to most insurers irrespective of if you claim or not as most ask about "incidents" irrespective of if you claim or whos fault it is.
That said, most will take the approach that if they dont claim the insurers will never find out. If you do claim your would be playing a risky game by not declaring it in the future because there will be official records and they may find their way onto CUE0 -
Thanks for all of your posts. I understand where you are coming from. If I listed to my insurer every incident (pot hole) I have gone through recently, given the embarrassing state our roads are in, I would be surprised if anyone would want to insure me!0
