Recommission Heating System?

Don't even know who I should contact to do this and what I should ask them to quote for.

I've just successfully purchased my first home and as it's a repossession the water, gas and electric have been off for over 6 months.

Electricity company came out to give me a key which credited the unpayed debt existing on the key operated electric meter, kindly whilst he was doing that he also checked all the electricity sockets in the house presumably for earthing, neutral etc.

It's not an old house (1990ish) and so it should be ok. Consumer Unit is a modern type.

The heating systems drained down. I want to start the boiler again but I want someone who knows what they're doing to do it.

It's a Vaillant combi boiler (15yrs old) and I've no instructions.

What should I do and how much should it cost? I guess I need to ask a CORGI reg'd engineer to come round and recomission the system.

Are there things they should be doing, for instance like flushing the rads (there's no header tank it's sealed so should be ok) or flushing the boiler itself?

Also turning on the water itself anything I need to be looking out for apart from huge foutains of water obviously :D
Trying hard to be a good moneysaver.

for a boiler that age id recommend a replacement

however if you want to keep the exisitng your going to need a powerflush in all honestry

depending on the number of rads you looking at approx £50-70 per rad plus £30ish for chemicals

not all corgi eng have equipment or knowledge to do it so be carefull who you choose.

Youll def need a corgi round to recommision the boiler and id recommend a service as well.

the';ll be able to quote for the powerflush when there as well.

Note however depending on age and condition of the system as a whole, it may be necessary to replace sections if not all of the pipework if there is sludge in the system that has blocked them up.

click here to go to the CORGI site and locate a registered installer near your postcode

heres the vaillant website and if you register your details you should be able to download a copy of the user guide instructions for your boiler - if its too old and not there email them and they should be able to assit
    hope this helps

My friends in the know suggested replacement as well but I'm overstretched financially as it is. A friend who's CORGI came round and fired it up and it's running ok. He'll service it this weekend.

He mentioned injecting some stuff into the rads and then coming back later to powerflush.

Thanks very much for the tip re Valliant. I'd already downloaded every pdf they had. I'll contact them and see what happens.

In actual fact the system is performing extremely well.

But's it's microbore so I would imagine that there's some silt in it.
