Charity not registered online query

Hi

A group of us are running in the Belfast marathon in May doing the relay event.

As one of the runners father recently spent time in hospital having heart surgery, we have decided to raise money to give to the ward where he stayed. We are currently raising funds by paper sponsor forms etc but I'd like to set up a Justgiving or similar online page.

Problem is that you have to select a charity when registering the page and ours really isn't a recognised charity. If there was a way that people could donate online and then Justgiving send the ward a cheque or whatever would be great.

Does anyone know how we can set this up online or even if it can be done?

Thanks

You can't use JustGiving for this: I'm not sure any of the online fundraising sites will deal with groups which aren't registered charities. However, is there a 'friends of the hospital' group who are so registered? You'd have to check they were happy to receive a restricted gift, and indeed that they're registered - note that some charities won't register with JustGiving, but may be with Virgin or one of the other (cheaper) options.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Whilst I've had relatives do this sort of thing for specific wards, please bear in mind that if you did buy a specific piece of equipment then it wouldn't necessarily stay on that ward.....if that makes sense

I would contact the hospital. The most common scenario is that there is a charity associated with the hospital (such as a League of Friends) who are happy to receive a donation "intended for X ward". The staff of X ward do their best at the time to get something nice; of course, how long it lasts or is useful is never certain.

My local hospital has ice making machines on all the wards (you know how when you are told to drink plenty you don't really want luke-warm water!). These began on a few wards because of specific donations, finally the League of Friends got them for all.

Some doctors actually believe lukewarm water is more beneficial!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I think it was mentioned in a health related article I received via e-mail, so when I have time I'll look in my inbox
