Central Heating Pump

I have gas central heating, and the main pump for the radiators has always been silent in it's functioning, but in the last month or so I've noticed a distinct thrumming in the pipes when the pump is active. I don't hear much when I go into the garage where it's located but you can feel it vibrating when you touch it.
Do you think it's on it's way out? Best to get a new one fitted in the next bit of warmer weather, or wait until it expires?
Thanks.

My first thoughts were that it may require to be bled, but some info in link below

The bearings do go after xx years and the pump needs to be replaced.
Although they cost a bit more, there are pumps with lower electricty consumption which should save in the long term.0 -
firefox - the system doesn't get serviced, just the boiler and controls getting a yearly check as part of the british gas service contract. the cylinder, rads, pipes and pump are left to their own devices!
hasbeen - thanks for that link - very interesting. I think my pump is a grunfoss.
cardew - I will excavate the receipt for the previous pump replacement from our archive and find out how old the pump is. could be 15 or 20 years.
thanks for your responses. thanks buttons clicked.0 -
I've just had a new boiler fitted; at the same time I got the pump and hot water diverter valve replaced - the previous pump had been in since the house was built 26 years ago!
I've noticed that the noise has decreased and that the radiators heat up far quicker which suggests that the old pump wasn't circulating efficiently any more,so well worth replacing in my book.0 -
you have BG cover, if the system has suddenly started making noises then get them out, SimplesI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
