PC World Won't Supply Spares

About a month ago I bought a HP laptop from PC World (I know!).
Unfortunately a couple of weeks later my son dropped it and damaged before repair the charger plug.
We went back to PC world and they sold us the standard HP Charger.
Upon trying it it the plug didn't fit in the lap top so we took the lap top back. They looked at it and told us it was a different plug and didn't do that module and suggested we contact HP.
Which we did, who in turn put us in contact with a third party supplier. We've ordered one but with a delivery date at the end of April!
We've been in contact with PC World but they won't help us as we damaged the unit. Can they refuse to source spares for a brand new lap top? Is it fit for purpose if they can't support it.
I know untimately if it our fault by the whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth over how PC World have treated us and I'd like to know if I have any rights as well.

Yes, they can refuse - if the item was faulty they would have to provide a remedy for the problem, but not when you caused the problem.
Have you checked if you can source the charger online? Which model laptop is it? You may be able to get a generic one cheaper and faster.0 -
We've tried getting one on line but the only ones were the same as PC World had. This seems to be a brand new model.
This is just very annoying. I know it is out fault but I really don't think PC World should be selling something that they can't source major spares for.0 -
They can source parts if they need them - they can simply replace the whole item.
If you give us the laptop/ charger reference, we can look for you?0 -
The reference on the invoice looks like HP 15-0B50SA ED i3 but I can't find any reference to this on line. It is an Altec Lansing model.
It also says HP Pavillion and HP ProtectSmart on the bottom0 -

I'm not getting any results for that - do you have a link for the product on the PC World website? You won't be able to post it as a link, but put a few spaces in and it should work. Or is there a reference on the charger?0 -
The product number on the back is
c6k17ea#abu0 -
Get a universal one from Maplins - come with about 10 or 12 different plugs.0

As it's a new model they might not have it yet but you could try Partmaster.
There should be a model number on the laptop itself.0 -
When I broke a HP laptop charger it was cheaper to buy a replacement from Kensington that came with connectors to fit a variety of models (other chargers may be available
).
