Issue getting deposit back

this particular area has always been somewhat unclear to me.
For instance, Shelter refers to looking at your tenancy agreement and so does gov.uk here;
https://www.gov.uk/private-renting-tenancy-agreements/how-to-end-your-tenancy
Perhaps it might help the OP to have the link to the legislation which says that you can leave at the end of the fixed term with no notice.
I have looked and can't find it (probably googling the wrong words)
I have looked and so far no definite answer so I will assume that if I didn't give notice then I may have a legal fight on my hands!
However, the OP has said that no such clause appears in their AST so it is immaterial and so questionable whether the deposit should continue to be withheld.
I also have no desire to see someone eating their hat!I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.
Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!0 -
I've just rang my|deposits and they've said it is now up to the landlord to go through the courts to obtain the money back.
If that doesn't happen within 6 months then I'll get the full deposit back.
This to me just seems like the landlord is doing it to be awkward and cause me to miss out on it for a further 6 months.
Anyone any advice on what I can do to try stop that from happening? The letting agent has been completely useless throughout.
Write as I advised above, that you will counterclaim through MCO!
Letting agents don't work for you, they work for the landlord, so don't expect and sympathy or support from them!0 -

I've contacted the letting agent as this time they seem to think I was on a 12 month contract but left early and that is causing the problems. (They're useless by a WIDE amount..) If they don't resolve the situation by tomorrow I will follow your advice.
