Administrator of the computer?

My son seems to have made himself the administrator of the family computer? I'm not sure why he would do this? He says he hasn't but when I right click on the start menu and go into explore it says administrator and his name and when I try to ckick on his name it says access denied?
Now I'm very basic with computers so I'm not sure if this is usual or not or is he trying to hide something?
What exactly does being the administrator mean?
Thanks in advance

means he can install stuff, change settings etc
if any of the other users are Adminstrator then you can change his to limited from control panel
or if you boot into safe mode there is a hidden administrator profile
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
where you can change his user profile (and remove a password if you want !! )
then just password protect ALL other users that have admin rights so he cannot get in and change his profile
also might be worth putting a password you remember of the safe mode Admin user....Ex forum ambassador

We have put a pass word on the computer on each member which is me, OH and our son but I have a feeling he has done something so he can get on it when we are not here?0

go in, change his account and then go into safe mode and password protect the admin account
I expect that is the route he has used to change his profile
