Young couple build beautiful cottage to escape rent slavery and live quietly

This couple's non planning permitted build is a symptom of the rotten and mendacious future that faces young people today.
It's all well and good to sit there and tut from your comfortable living room of 21 Acacia Avenue, bought on one income before the millennium. A fat purring persian on your knee and a copy of Caravaner's Monthly open to an interesting article about where to empty chemical toilets in the Loire Valley.
Try having nothing ahead of you other than a lifetime of renting on 6 month tenancies no matter how hard you work, miles from your hometown and see how you feel about planning permission then.
If you put people in an impossible position they will start to try and do impossible things.
Why should young people give a stuff about planning permission? Its a policy put in place to shaft them.0 -

It's been in force since 1948 so that means pretty much everybody on here had to contend with it not just today's young.0 -

Planning regs have been watered down in the last few years, so actually the reverse is true.0 -

One of the first things the Coalition government did when they took power was outlaw so called garden grabbing so. Since then how many houses have been built? How many affordable houses have been built?
There is plenty of land in England and there are plenty of people who need a house, and not some overpriced Barratt box build financed by George Osborne's dodgy government loan.
Let them build I say.0 -
So only those with landowning parents should get houses?ruggedtoast wrote: »This couple's non planning permitted build is a symptom of the rotten and mendacious future that faces young people today.
