Thanks fairyclicks. Yes i'm currently overpaying £500 per month. Aiming to get my mortgage down to £60k by the end of this year...and hopefully (lots of fingers crossed here) be mortgage free for my 35th birthday. It's a massive challenge but i'm hoping that by breaking it into lots of little baby steps I might just make it! :o

Yes I know what you mean about feeling like a grown up, I sit sometimes and think 'wow, how grown up do I feel!' lol. :rotfl:

  • Wll done tjp70, that's fantastic!

My total for the month so far is £49.70. My Mum gave me a stash of posh teabags so i've transfered the money I would have paid into my op account. I also transferred the money I saved when I got a free lunch at work.

I thought i'd really struggle to find and extra £1 a day to put towards the mortgage, especially when I was only counting savings, but I can't believe how much i've saved so far.

Oh i just have to share my thrify savings for today - I always always start my day with a bowl of porridge and i have bought the little 2min premade packs of flavoured stuff forever. This morning i finally took the leap to making my own with the huge bag of porridge oats i bought a few weeks ago and added some fruit. It took an extra minute in the microwave but was just as nice and cost about 1/10th of the price :D Its going to save me loads!!! For today i will add my £1 for this saving cos i did have to pay for the big bag :)

that brings me up to a lovely £35 so far this month - whoop whoop whoop :D - already over target for the month :D

Well done on your progress so far fairyclicks. If you like honey then try stirring a teaspoon of that into your porridge, it's lovely. I love porridge in the winter, it's very warming. I've also discovered this year that the chooks love it too, especially with raisins in! :rotfl:

I've got another few things to add to my total for the month. My mum gave me a ginger cake so I decided to add £1 to the op pot and yesterday I spent the afternoon turning an old bin into a strawberry barrel. If i'd have bought one it would have cost me at least £20 so i've taken the opportunity to add that to the pot too. My total is now £70.70 - i'm amazed!

WOW that is an amazing amount mortgage girl :D massive well done!!!

I love the fact you have used an old bin for your planter - i am in the process of trying to make some planters myself :) am collecting some broken branches from a wooded area just down the road and am hopefully going to make some out of them!

Thanks for the honey tip - unfortunately i don't like honey lol but i love syrup ;) lol

Nothing extra made for me today, but i did manage to resist buying both a big bar of chocolate and biscuits i really wanted :D then i went and spent it on a magazine DOH!!! I will add £2 to the pot though :D

    Thats £37 now :D

Hi fairyclicks, I'd like to join in with your challenge.

Using the formula, I calculated our daily interest to be £1. We already overpay our mortgage by £500pm but I am intrigued to see if I can squeeze out an extra saving of £1 a day.

I tried to keep up with the "when to pay ops discussion" but got a bit lost :o. Our mortgage only allows ops on payment day, in £10 increments. So I would be aiming at an extra £30 per month.

We only have 8 more mortgage payments to go so on the one-hand why bother but we have been in danger of letting things slip over the past couple of months, so this could be called our sprint to the finish line :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Will have a think tonight what I can do and post again tomorrow, Thriftyxxx

Oh how exciting that you are so close to the end!!!! I am sure you can squeeze out a little bit more during the month and make your target all that bit quicker ;)

Welcome to the challenge Thrifty :D
