"So not only are you an idiot, but it appears that you work for a company that openly flouts discrimination laws.

Do they also not employ anyone who is not white and hetrosexual?

I was going to ask you who you worked for - but it's obvious that your compNY'S owner is Adolf Hitler."

Not an idiot, but yes I do work for such a company.

No they won't employ anyone who is not a white heterosexual"

No, but if he was still alive he would be welcome!

eeeeeeexactly. And many, many people, myself included, don't care about the word f-tard. It's a "young" word currently legislated against because of its origins and for all the wrong reasons. When the yoof of today are in power and writing the laws, acting as barristers/solicitors, they'll wonder what the hell all the fuss is about.

And many young people will care about using the phrase f-tard, especially in the workplace. I think, at 21, my daughter counts as a young person. So do her friends. Out of respect, none swear in front of me or in front of my younger two children. I doubt if they would be stupid enough to use what is considered to be strong language at work, as they are aware that it can and is cobsidered offensive, and could result in a disciplinary.

As for the word retard, or its shortened version tard, I don't know anyone who uses it, either socially or in work. Perhaps, though, my daughter and her friends are more aware of the nasty, offensive nature of it when it is used as an insult, particularly as one of my children has Down's Syndrome.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me if a retard was someone with learning difficulties - I would explain that it is a word that has become offensive as it is now used as an insult. A similar thing happened when my son was born. My elderly dad asked if having Down's was the same as being a Mongol, which was the terminology when he was younger. My mum told him that yes, it is, but that because the word mongolism lead to a shortened version, mong, which was used as an insult, that term is no longer in use today. My dad, 80 at the time, never used the word Mongol again. Instead, he used the term Down's Syndrome.

Thinking that calling someone f-tard is acceptable.........well, what can I say?!

"If someone was disabled (not a retard as you like to call them) and you called them a retard (or even used the word and they indirectly overheard it) and they complained then you would be finding yourself on the end of a gross misconduct just like the OP. "
No I wouldn't, owners and employees all have a sense of humour, besides, they wouldn't employ anybody if they thought they were a retard.
And as for "another one who doesn't get it"
Of course I get it, whether I care or not is another matter!

    You really are a charmer.

Lots of people with learning disabilities find employment. I would hope that their employers would not find it funny if they were referred to in such a derogatory manor.

Can't remember who to attribute this quote to:-

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

The OP should count himself lucky if he gets a final written warning. Good chance of losing his job depending on the company.
As my Mum always said "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"
