how to buy a car

Hi all ,dont laff but I want some advice on buying a car from a dealer.
I normally buy my cars of ebay or auctions but today I have seen a car I like trouble is it at a main dealers and I don't know how to deal with there salesmen .....as in the car is up for £5,999 and I have a vectra on a 02 plate to trade in (4mth tax 8mth test) .
What sort of price should I aim for paying ????

  • Research on ebay and trader how much your car is really worth, be sensible the asking prices there are exactly that so knock something off asking prices.

Reseach your prospective cars price in the two same places,

The difference in the two prices is your price to change, cost to change is your aim however the figgures are juggled.

They won't want to give you a decent price for your present car unless the one you want to buy is a lemon or been sitting there 6 months and they are desperate to shift it on.

Just remember you can always raise your offer so start low, his job is to sell cars, your purpose isnt to buy every car. before discussing the price of the car you want to buy, get him to give youa price for yours, then discuss the price of the car your buying and work on the difference.

When you agree on a price work on free things/tax/mot... and if you dont get what you want call his bluff and say you will have a think ... car salesman dont hold grudges,..... there want to sell cars

£5900 £99 for your old Vectra?

As we have no idea what Fiesta your buying Year/Plate, Mileage, Condition, Service History, Owners, Optional Extra's? How do we know what its worth?
It manye worth £2000 so they can offer you £3000 for your vectra even though its worth much less.

Then the same with the Vectra, Other than the tax and MOT which is worth almost nothing. Engine, Condition, Mileage, Service History? Number of Owners? etc...

2002 Vectra from about £140 scrap value. If its a new/almost new dealer then he wont want your car. Its straight out the back to the scrappers or auction unless he has a buyer that takes all their part ex's.

I have a coin on my desk, What do you think its worth?
