Mobile phone on home policy, and gadget insurance

I had a smart phone, bought 11 months ago. At the same time I bought specific gadget insurance for it through insureandgo.
Since then I have renewed my home and contents insurance which also covers items outside the home.
The phone has been lost, the police contacted, and an IMEI block done.
I would like to to claim with insureandgo - it has a £25 excess for loss instances.
My home policy has an excess of £100.
The replacement cost is around £250.
Insureandgo want a copy of my home contents policy as part of their claim process.
Are they going to try and avoid the claim altogether, or split it somehow with my home policy? Am I going to end up paying two excesses and make two claims against two policies to get one phone back (ie a £25 excess and a £100 excess for them to send me one new or refurbed phone worth approx £250)?
If that's the case, with the effect on my renewal costs, it hardly seems worth it...

Replacement cost you list is new or secondhand? Most gadget insurance policies are indemnity based not new for old and so the secondhand value is what you normally would get net of the excess (cannot say specifically for your policy)
There could be a contribution clause in your gadget insurance so they would be looking to your home insurers to contribute to covering the claim. You'd only have one excess to pay and it would be payable to insure and go but it probably will count as a claim off of both - check with your home insurers.
As to the impact, do a dummy quote online using slightly altered personal details, one with a claim and one without to judge it0 -

Thanks for taking the time to reply
A brand new phone would be around £290. A refurbed model in good used / like new condition around £250. My policy says it will provide a new or refurbished phone of similar performance. The phone I lost is still widely available (a Galaxy S2)
I have re-read my policy and there is no mention of other insurers - no stipulation saying if covered elsewhere must be claimed elsewhere.
Are insureandgo asking about other policies so they can make sure others are aware to stop a multiple claim? That's fine by me...0 -
£40 off the new price for a refurbished one?
More like £100 off. Under £200 for a refurb S2.
Trade it in and its worth £100 - £120.
£100 excess on the home policy and the value of the phone may may it an expensive claim. After increased premiums for the next few years.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
