Help please, plastic melted on cooker

My DD(grrrr) has just put the lid of the Flora tub on the hot electric hob and it has totally melted onto it.. (I managed not to shout, it could have been her hand.) I have scraped most of it off but the green logo of the Flora and some of it is still on it, any ideas of how to get it off? Should I take a scourer to it? Is it better to keep it warm so that the plastic doesn't go hard?0

Oops done this myself, I switched it off and let it go hard and it chipped off with a metal spoon, was still a bit of a whiff when I switched it on the next time but went after that.
What type of hob is it ?One day I might be more organised...........

Lol, I saw the title of this thread yesterday and thought that I don't need to read it. Then last night, OH put an empty plastic microwave dish on the cooker, forgetting that the plate was still hot....quite a smell.
Before I could even think of what to do, he squirted cold water on it and scraped the plastic off at the same time. Result: success, plastic gone!He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

lucky you!! Mine still has the green "flora" logo printed on it from the margarine tub, and small bits of plastic ingrained into the plate. I should have waited until it had gone cold or like your OH sprayed water onto it, but the smell was terrible and my first reaction was to get it off asap. Going to buy a decect scourer today (only have little green ones with sponge attached) and see if that works.0

Good luck (alternatively, sell the cooker on ebay: "Rare Flora cooker, limited edition..." :rotfl: )He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Doh!
Accidently turned on the wrong ring on the hob yesterday - the one with the lunchbox lid sitting on it
Any ideas as to the best way to remove the melted plastic mess that is the result of my stupidity, please? Reheat the ring gently and try removing the plastic as it melts? Iron and brown paper maybe? Keep chipping away at it with a knife?

Do we get pictures?
I don't think the iron will work. Chipping away, you would have to be very careful not to damage the hob. I would probably try heating it gently and see if it would lift/pull off.
Reminds me of the time OH put a plastic plate in a hot oven. It melted between the bars into a very interesting shape.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Hi madmittens,
There's an older thread that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

i accidently left the oven hob on and melted the polysterene bit you get on the bottom of a pizza onto the hob - idiot i know!
has anyone got any idea the best way to clean it? i thought if i let it cool down it would be easier to chip away but its stuck on pretty good, do you think heating it back up a little bit would help get it off ?
if anyone else has had this problem and managed to get it off i would be really grateful for your advice0
