Help please, plastic melted on cooker

Options
OK, here goes... to cut a long story short, I accidentaly left four yogurts on my electric hob, switched the cooker on and was greeted with a fantastic 'slizzle'... I now have melted plastic all over one of the rings of my hob, and have no idea how to get it off! Ive scraped off the excess, but there's still melted plastic on it, ive tried scrubbing with star drops, but it just wont shift! any ideas on what i can do? thanks! xxxx

can you warm it up again, just so the plastic softens & then scrape it off?

i tried that just now, it stinks! it looks as if the plastic is stuck between the tiny grooves of the hob if you know what i mean?

No, I can't imagine it smells very pleasant! You need something sharp & pointy to scrape in the grooves. I fear it's going to be a long job.
You could go to the other extreme & try freezing it, so it goes really hard & brittle & is easier to get out?? maybe.........stick a bag of ice cubes or frozen peas over the ring. It works with chewing gum.

Depends how well stuck it is, but it may come off in one lump once the ring is completely cold - the plastic will be more likely to stick to itself rather than the ring....
.... don't even ask how I know this!!!!!!!!

(I also have a carving knife with a plastic handle that melted all the way round the heating element in a dishwasher. That was fun to remove, too!!!)

ok, so i tried heating it up, and cooling it down, scrubbing it with a greeny, and picking it with tooth picks, nothing's moved it!

Argh Ive been here myself Its so annoying itsnt it

I expect the plastic is quite thin, when it happened to me it was a tupperware so easy enough to scrape off.

I dont know what to suggest here unless you turn the hob on and let it burn off although I dont know if this will goose your hob for good? Anyone know
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Something that melts plastic would be good.Thinners or nail varnish remover or something. Dont know what your hob surface is like ,I dont want you to melt the finish too and you would have to do it very carefully as most things that will melt plastic will be flammable.

the hob surface is sort of 'grainy', like its made of stone(?)... im sort of tempted to just switch it on, and let it burn off, but my little 'un has got asthma, and i think a houseful of fumes probably wouldnt be a great thing.

Might it be worth contacting the cooker manufacturers (I'm sure you won't have been the first person to have done this!) as they will also be able to advise on what NOT to do with regard to damaging the hob surface.

    BEST OF LUCK!
    If it's cheap, I'm cheerful!
