Car Insurance claim

In January 2013 I skid on ice on a steep hill (at very slow speed and low gear) and hit a parked car, had bumper, headlight damage to my car and bumper damage to the other, had to claim my insurance for repairs, both cars have been repaired in January itself, but I have not received any documents from my insurance company, do I get any sort of paper work for the claim?
My policy is due for renewal next month, when I try for a new quotes the claim part asks for cost of claim? How can I know the cost?

I caught and damaged a neighbour's car in Dec, it was all sorted by my insurance co and I haven't received anything from them either so perhaps this is usual for blame claims ?
I'd give them a call to ask for the cost, you won't be the first to ask and I can't see any reason why they shouldn't tell you.

Normally you dont receive anything in connection with the claim unless you ask for it.
You can always ask the insurer what the total settlement figure was (if its settled already)0 -
No news is good news.. You may only get letters when your insurance have failed to settle promptly.
So it looks like they have. Wait for the bill and threats of court action if YOU dont pay.
Happens a lot with insurers that dont like paying out.

I think this has to change. To get accurate alternatives at renewal, you need to know the value of a claim. I think insurers need to advise the policyholder as a matter of course when a claim is settled. It has to come under TCF rules these days.0 -
I don't know if it's really a protocol for them to give the insurers any related documents regarding the claim but I think you can always ask them. I think it's your right to see official documents regarding it.0

Under TCF, but more ICOB really, you had to keep the insured informed but most insurers send a letter saying they'll deal appropriately without giving updates unless the insured explicitly asks for them.
That approach could have been challenged via FOS/ FSA but the couple of claims I've been involved in in recent years resulted in no letters0 -
I was referring to barriers to change provider rather than the claims process.0

Phoning to ask would satisfy TCF and only a proportion of insurers ask what the claims cost was. What happened is much more relevant to how much it cost as there is a much bigger element of luck on that0
