Removing negative feedback

Hi
Wondering if someone can offer advice.

I listed a dining table and chairs on eBay recently, collection only, and they sold for a decent price.
Buyer took a couple of days to email me but arranged to pick them up on the morning of the 19th March. (auction finished on the 15th). I provided him/her with a address and telephone number.

19th March came and went, no word from the buyer. No emails, no calls, no one came to the house. I sent him/her a email saying that we had not heard from them and could they please contact me to re arrange pick up.

I had put on the listing in bold black letters that I wished for the buyer to pick the item up no more than 10 days after the listing was complete. I emailed the buyer on Friday 22nd to remind them of this, having still not had any word from them, and if they had changed their mind to let me know.

Monday morning, the 10 day limit, I opened a case to cancel the transaction, still having had no word of contact from buyer in any form.
Monday night I logged on to eBay and they have had the cheek to leave me negative feedback and saying they have tried to contact me multiple times!! I checked the email I sent with the contact number and address just in case there had been an oversight, but the details I gave are all correct.

I have made a complaint to eBay but I want to know how to get the negative removed as it is a blatant lie! No wonder I dont use eBay as much as I used to!

eta: no money is involved in this. the buyer was paying cash on collection so no refund is due, etc.

  • You have 2 options, both of which have their possible risks.

1/ Contact ebay by phone and tell them what has happened and ask them to look at the messages that you have sent to your buyer to try to arrange a collection and payment date.
They may do this and agree that the neg feedback was unfair then remove it, but this isn't guaranteed.

2/ Open a non payer dispute, and if your buyer doesn't pay then you can apply to ebay to have their feedback removed.
The possible downside with this is that your buyer may know how the system works and they may make a paypal payment to you.
If they do this then their feedback will probably be allowed to stay and they can then open a non delivery dispute to get their money refunded.

There may be other options that I've missed, and if this is the case then I'm sure one of the ebay regulars will be able to give better advice.

This is what happens when you dont file a non paying bidder claim. Buyer gets away with it - seller gets a neg.

Shaun from africa - a claim cannot be opened now - as the seller has opened a cancellation instead.

Just hope that ebay listen. Email them, use the report a buyer feature and try live chat. Some on here suggest phoning is best - but i have never spoken to Ebay - and never want to.

I had a pick up in person item for sale it was only a toddler activity toy , and too bulky to post , they won it for 99p, I was just wanting rid of it out the garden, well the person never came for it after I made contact they ignored, then they left negative feedback to me saying "went to his door but he refused to hand the item over!Timewaster" FOR A QUID? and plus I am a woman PLUS crucially, the buyer doesn't get a note of the sellers address and they never asked me for it, just a malicious buyer. Had left several negs for folk and was a scammer obviously. Ebay didnt remove their neg feedback cos it was listed as "collection in person" and no payment was ever tracked through paypal. They said that I could add a reply under the feedback but they couldnt remove it as "the buyer didnt breach any rules".

I'm confused, surely if you sold something for collection then yu sent the buyer your full postal address anyway? So how can the person have collected if you were too afraid to tell them where you live....

Safety is paramount when you think of it, OP as an honest seller gave out his/her full address and tel number to a buyer, and someone now has that info, how do you tell it was just a buyer change of mind, or someone who wants to burgle your home

It's not ebay that is the problem, it's the folk who use it LOL

All buyers have access to that anyway and I find it amusing that people who obviously don't use ebay find it funny that they don't understandhow it works

Really, burgulars now can't find a house to burgle unless they go through ebay- as conspiracies go that is a humdinger.

  • thanks for replies.

I have already used the "report a buyer" feature but I will try the live chat, thanks techspec :)
I tried phoning them before over a incident like this and their customer support was useless at best.

Reason I opened a cancellation over NPB was because I am aware buyer could have tried to pay with paypal to close the case, still not turned up and then would have got ugly with me over a refund. Buyers have all the tricks in the palm of their hand really.

I dont have any worries about this dude trying to burgle me lol - he was apparantly going to come all the way down to London from Cheshire for the item. Should have raised a red flag straight away I suppose.

Anyway, once again thanks for input :)

If you get through to Dublin, they're very helpful. Livechat is useless when it comes to feedback removal.
  • Just used their live chat and explained the situation, and the operator has removed the negative feedback from my account as apparantly it breached their policy in some way!

chalk one up for a seller (at long last!)

soolin soz, you misunderstood my post, I was talking about buyers who make no contact then leave a neg for spite "cos they can"

I dealt with a buyer of collect item in person , they did not respond to me, made no contact with me on the email or tel number I gave so I didnt send my address and they didnt request it but pretended in neg feedback that a man shut door on their face!! LOL must have bid by error, and they never sought my details off ebay, so made no contact just frustrating, you wait 10 days and then you see the negative lie about how they came to the door and were told by HIM to beat it when there is no HIM even at my house...but they got to leave feedback for an item they didnt even take off my hands .how annoying , ebay were under no obligation to remove the feedback, so it stayed, but I think I explained it better, "it's pot luck with selling bulky items!"

I have no Phil Mitchell here to scare people away, lol, but I do know how to use ebay and have had some good sales of bulky items, several years ago, I had the weirdest one ,someone who claimed they were at my house! She said she was ABOUT to ring my doorbell (and that is when I knew she was at it, as, I do not have a bell) but she changed her mind as she said "I peered into your hall and I seen a HUGE wedding picture of you and your husband hanging up, and you look so happy, as I am newly divorced so it was too painful when I see the pic so I just walked away " And that is a genuine email I received once! Beat that for an excuse given by a buyer!!!

(I am not married btw so hell knows whose house she peered in!! nutter)

    :j:T:beer:

Ive always done OK on live chat - i suppose it depends who you get.

One up for the seller. Ebay do seem to have realised that they are upsetting too many sellers, in favour of a few fly by night chancers.

Maybe we have reached a turning point.

LIVE chat to the ebay organisation is the best way to deal with buyer /seller problems that arise, it's fast , it's free , it's polite and friendly and the problem is explained quickly in instant messaging, feedback removed there and then , and the transcript of the chat is then emailed to you right away showing who you spoke to and the steps they promised to take. They don't tell you what steps they are taking, unless it is straight forward feedback removal, due to privacy laws.
