has it got speakers?0

Is the sound card enabled / installed properly / present?
Right-click My Computer, choose Properties, click on Hardware Device Manager, scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers, make sure there is a sound card listed there. If any devices have a yellow exclamation mark beside them, double-click the device name, and tell us what the error message says.
Most likely cause for this is incorrect or missing sound card drivers.0 -
Millionaire yes it does have speakers
Jzpop there is a yellow exclamation mark beside C-MEDIA AC97 Audio Device & it says This device cannot start (code 10)
thanx again in anticipation

Unfortunately, the AC 97 has many variations. The best way forward is to identify the exact make and model of your motherboard (as the sound card is built into your motherboard) and then download the correct drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website.
To do this, go to the link below, download everest, install and run it. Use Everest to check what motherboard you have, and post the details back here. One of us will be able to point you at the correct drivers for your soundcard, using that information -

have downloaded C-media-5.12(1).zip-Win-RAR
now what0 -
Sounds like you have downloaded a compressed file. To uncompress (expand) it, go to -
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Download and install version 3.62. Once Winrar is installed, simply right-click the driver file that you downloaded and choose 'Extract here' to extract the file into the same folder as the original compressed version.
You will then be able to double-click the file that has just been expanded - probably will have the same file name, but ends in .exe0 -
Hi all
