My daughter would like a tablet for her birthday, budget is around £100, I have been looking at the Versus Touchtab/pad can't work out which is best, but am open to suggestions.
She will probably mainly want to play games on it Subway Surfer (doesn't seem to work on everything), 4 pics 1 word, Angry Birds etc
Then I guess she would want Youtube, iPlayer etc.
Any guidance would be most welcome, have been trying to work out the best option but am just getting more and more confused.
I am aware that at this price its no 'iPad' rival but it's just a starter tablet for her to prove herself with.
Many thanks for your help!

Hi,
Your best bet is to go for an Android based tablet. For the types of apps your daughter is looking at playing, you don't really want to go below a 9" screen, but again I enjoy playing some of those on my iPhone which is smaller. Personal preference I suppose.
There's quite a lot out there for a budget price these days. I just did a quick search on Amazon, sorted by 'price: low to high' and chose a price range of '£100-£200' to sift out all the covers and screen protectors the search brought up.
I can't really suggest a tablet, I think everyone is biased towards their favourite manufacturer, but the VERSUS tablets seem to fair well. Some really good reviews and within budget - HURRAH!0 -
HotUkDeals regularly get cheap tablets listed, for example £37:

This is cheap for a reason, but a good quality tablet will cost a lot more - Nexus 7 for about £169 delivered:

or alternatively an Amazon Fire tablet. There seems to be a real gap in the market between the cheap options and the quality options.
Larger tablets (IPad or Nexus 10) are another big step up in price.0 -
You have stated a budget but a lot of people will tell you on here to buy something a lot more expensive I am afraid to say.
Good news you don't have to for a 9 year old. My kids (8 and 10) have these each in fact I have bought 4 all together now.

Its a good size (same size and shape as an ipad mini) battery lasts well, display is better than usual, decently put together, plenty of memory and powerful enough to run Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Beach Buggy Blitz, Agent Dash, Angry Gran, Cut the rope, Team awesome, Doggie Blues 3D and even the amazing Real Racing 3 perfectly smoothly. It can play any movies full screen, iplayer (best done via the BBC website using Opera Browser - free from the Android store). Camera is not too good but plenty good enough to Skype video call her friends. unlike a lot of budget tablets this one has good wifi reception too.
Reduced to this price they are a bargain.0 -
Do you have Tesco vouchers?
I got an iPad 4th gen for £260's worth; I know that's not your cash budget, but I thought it might be an option (the iPad mini WiFi is £175 worth).0 -
for under £100 one of the best tablets is http://www.ebuyer.com/407319-sumvision-cyclone-voyager-tablet-pc-cycvoy7
or slightly bigger http://www.ebuyer.com/450264-sumvision-cyclone-voyager-tablet-pc-cycvoy8
yes the kindle fire and the nexus 7 are better but cost a lot moreDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
you could have a look at these coming in at £95.00. Very light despatched from Scotland with good backup from supplier

I have the 7" Cyclone that Gonzo links to above and can confirm it's a cracking piece of kit......and it's a fiver less than when I bought mine a couple of weeks ago !
I honestly can't think of anything I would want to do with a tablet that this one can't do0 -

How is the Jelly Bean going on these? a lot of tablets on the market with Jelly Bean seem to have niggles where the manufacturers have not quite got it suited to the hardware yet...but... when it is properly setup it seems to be quick and ideal for tablets. Do you get any lock ups or unplanned shutdowns? wifi is reliable? just curious.0 -
Thank you for all your feedback, the Novo 7 Legend looks good and from what sillygoose says, does all the things she wants for a great price. Also the Cyclone which I had never heard of before, so will have to choose between the 2 now I guess.
Just wanted to be sure what I was getting would be capable of running the games she wanted and iPlayer, youtube Skype etc Had read things about some tablets not having Flash and this affecting what they can run?
As she is only going to be 9 and a tablet is something she really wants I do believe she will take good very good care of it, but kids are kids are accidents happen so until she is a little older would prefer a cheaper model if it is capable of doing the things she wants. We also try to limit birthdays to £100.0
